Makula Hot Spring in South Sangalla District, South Sulawesi Province

It is about 12 km from Makale. The management has built a pool near to the hot spring. Thus, visitors can enjoy warm and clean water comfortably.

Exploring Makula Hot Spring
There are 3 sources of water in Makula Hot Spring. All of them come from Toraja Mountains. The water comes out naturally and the temperature is about 44 degree of Celsius. It is said the water comes from the magma inside Kaero Hill. The heat affects the water, so it becomes warm on the surface. Today, Makula becomes more popular both among the locals and foreigners. Makula Hot Spring is located in a highland. Despite the cold atmosphere, the water is quite warm. This combination is quite comfortable. As mentioned before, there is the main pool. However, you can find other pools near to it. Both kids and adults can enjoy the water. The only precaution is the duration. You should not spend too much time in the water. Otherwise, it makes you uncomfortable. In terms of facilities, the hot spring features a parking lot and a resting place.
The hot spring is situated near to Rantepao City. The distance is roughly 28 km from it. Due to its strategic location, everyone can reach it without hassles. How to Get There
As mentioned earlier, Makula Hot Spring is located in South Sangalla District. Still, it belongs to Tana Toraja Regency. If you come from Makassar City, the trip takes about 8 hours and the distance is 315 km. For a more comfortable and faster trip, it is recommended to take Poros Barru-Makassar Street. What about the outsiders? It is better to take an airplane. That means you must reach Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar City. Later, you may continue the trip to reach Tana Toraja and Sangalla.
